It's a frightening statistic, but did you know that a neglected carpet can contain up to four times its own weight in dirt?
All you have to do is to take one of your smaller rugs out into the garden, beat them thoroughly and you would be amazed at the huge dust clouds that billow out. Now imagine how much more dust, dirt, allergens and other pollutants are trapped in your wall-to-wall carpeting, not to mention your cushions, upholstery, beds and other. It is no wonder that many of us and even more of our children suffer from dust related allergies and other respiratory problems.
Many of us are allergic to dust mites, even though we may not realize it. Homes in the humid tropical climate such as Malaysia provide the perfect environment for dust mites to live and breed. They thrive in environments where the humidity is above 40%, and humans live. Dust mites feed off dead human skin and female dust mites breed between 20-25 offspring in their short 2-3 week life span.
Independent studies
If you think that vacuuming alone gets all the dust out of your carpets and upholstery, you're wrong. Independent studies carried out by leading test laboratory Cleaning Research International [CRI] have proven that washing carpets leaves them significantly cleaner than dry vacuuming alone.
Vacuuming alone can only remove the top layer of dirt. The lower layer of dirt remains trapped within the carpet fibres and as the grit, dirt and grease get trodden deeper and deeper, it cuts the pile, making it dull and loosening the fibres.

Myths
It is a common myth that washing carpets, especially woollen ones, is bad for them, and can cause them to shrink. This couldn't be further from the truth. Washing your carpet will brighten colors, remove trapped odors and germs and prolong the life of your carpet.
